Introduction:

The Coronavirus Community of Practice and our panel of speakers and reaction panelists were introduced. Emergency medicine, critical care, pediatric, law enforcement, and emergency response experts were complimented by youth, college students, and young adults who are members of the Med Tac Student Outreach Team.

The Science Behind Delta ā€“ WSJ Video:

An excellent video produced by the Wall Street Journal also found on YouTube entitled The Science Behind Why the Delta Variant Is Spreading COVID-19 Faster addressed the structural differences in the Delta Variant that originated in India. The film describes why the Delta Variant is such a powerful adversary.

Dr. Omayra Mansfield:

Dr. Mansfield, a physician leader and emergency medicine doctor from Florida provides a real-life view from the frontline. She tells an inspiring story about the power of nurses to influence each other to become vaccinated. She challenges us leverage the power of our great clinical leaders.

Dr. Chris Fox ā€“ The Delta Variant Briefing:

The Chairman and Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCI provides comprehensive briefing on the implications of the Delta surge. He provides the rationale for vaccination, masking, and family safe practices. He shares his personal experience of driving COVID safe practices in the Bahamas.

David Beshk Defines Role of the Chief Family Officer:

An award-winning educator and Med Tac instructor, David Beshk describes how families can engage their children in the COVID fight. How they can work together and turn the science into safety. He addresses how the Family Lifeguard checklist developed over the holidays to address the last surge can be applied to todays challenges.

Dr. Christopher Peabody ā€“ Delta Safe Practices:

The Director of the Innovation Center and an Emergency Medicine Assistant Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Peabody walks through the Survive and Thrive Guide courses we have produced. He describes how the principles can be applied to the Delta Surge.

Dr. Greg Botz ā€“ The Family Safety Plan:

A critical care doctor and Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at MD Anderson Cancer Center and University of Texas and Adjunct Professor at Stanford Medical Center, Dr. Botz addresses the nuances of how the Family Safety Plans developed for our audiences and our research results can be adapted to the Delta Surge.
